Obituary of George John Fleischmann, Jr

George John Fleischmann, Jr., passed away on April 29, 2023, in the loving company of his life partner, Jesse O. Ellis.  George was born in St. Louis, MO, on December 21, 1942. He had a long and successful career in the information technology industry, including 30 years with IBM in Lexington, KY. 

George was preceded in death by his parents, George John Fleischmann, Sr., and Cecelia Fleischmann, Jesse’s parents Gilbert Morrison Ellis, Sr., and Catharine Owen Ellis, and George’s sister-in-law Barbara Daniel Ellis.  He is survived by two brothers: Gilbert Morrison Ellis, Jr., and Hays H. Ellis (Victoria Myers), as well as seven nieces and nephews, their spouses and children.  George loved and was dearly loved by his close friends and his neighbors on the hill. 

For nearly 50 years, George and Jesse lived in rural Woodford County in a home they built overlooking the Kentucky River.  They delighted in hosting large family gatherings each year on the day after Christmas, a tradition that is fondly remembered by all. 

George was an avid photographer, pet and nature lover, scuba diver and adventurer.  He was an active member of the Bluegrass Dive Club, participated in dozens of trips, including diving Darwin’s Arch in Galapagos, and served as Treasurer for many years.  His travels across Italy and to Siesta Key, Florida, with Jesse were some of his fondest memories.
