George Hellard

Obituary of George David Hellard

George David Hellard, the oldest son of Leona Tilghman Hellard and Victor Wilcox Hellard, passed away on Monday, April 10, 2023. He was preceded in death by his middle brother Victor W. Hellard Jr. and both of his parents and also his step-daughter Cameron W. Cassriel. George was born on August 1, 1933 at the Woodford Memorial Hospital. He was a 1952 graduate of Versailles High School and a 1960 graduate of Eastern Kentucky University. He often remarked on the friendships he made not only in high school, but also in the US Army while serving in occupied Germany. One friend in particular was Greg Kallas, greatest Kansas Jayhawks fan in all the world. George had many friends in the business community as well. He was employed by two of the giants of the Lexington finance community. He was first hired by Jack Herndon of the Commercial Credit Company and Plummer Jones Jr. of Franklin Pioneer Mortgage Company, the only Kentucky-based mortgage company to survive the Great Depression of 1949. The experience in these two companies led to opening the George Hellard Real Estate Company. George took great pride in those friendships with Jack Herndon and Plummer Jones.

On December 27, 1980, George married Sara Davis Weisenberger. He is survived by his wife Sara, his step-daughter, Paige Weisenberger McClellan and her husband, Joe McClellan. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Ellen Hellard, his son-in law Steve Cassriel and his younger brother Ronnie W. Hellard and his wife Karen, and his niece, Misty Hellard. Sara and George enjoyed life with seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
