Obituary of Billy R. Fortenberry

Billy R. Fortenberry, 84, husband of Catherine Fortenberry, passed away Tuesday, June 28, 2022, with Cathy by his side. He was born in Jefferson County, Alabama, to the late Isom Clarence and Lovie Dobbins Fortenberry on February 6, 1938. Mr. Fortenberry was a loving husband, father, grandfather and engaged community member. He was educated and trained as a manufacturing engineer and oversaw manufacturing processes at facilities in Kentucky, Tennessee, Michigan, and Canada. He served in the Army National Guard. During his forty years in Versailles, KY, he was an active member of St. Leo Church, where he volunteered and served with the Knights of Columbus. He also donated his time and know-how to the work of Habitat for Humanity. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of nearly sixty-five years, his daughters, Debra Fortenberry (Graeme), of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Karen Fortenberry, of Seattle, Washington; grandchildren, Wyatt Geibig and Alaina Geibig of Colorado; sisters, Eva (Herman) Fugatt, of Pennsylvania; brother, L.C. Fortenberry, of Alabama; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, July 2, 2022, at St. Leo Catholic Church. Father Chris Clay will officiate. Inurnment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until the start of mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bluegrass Hospice Care Navigators www.bgcarenav.org or St. Leo Church.
