Ms. Marcia was a Southern Joy!
I consider myself most fortunate that on a cold March day in 1969, Marcia and her
family moved in next door to us on Fair Oak Drive in Rochester Hills, Michigan. From
that first sit down in her family room, the warm gracious being that would become
one of my dearest friends was in full bloom. The "Yes ma'am," of her children to
the "Nice to meet you Ms. Patti," was my introduction to the sweet charm of
Marcia's influence on her children and mine yet to come.
Marcia was the epidemy of gracious Southern hospitality. And if you never had the
pleasure of tasting her 'famous' holiday eggnog, you missed out on one of the
wonders of Marcia. She loved the holidays and her family coming to visit. She would
bake and prepare dishes for weeks in advance to freeze, just so when they did
arrive, she could spend as much time as possible with them and not in the kitchen
cooking.
Her family was everything to her, her husband Gene, her daughter Ronda, her son
Ron, and his children, her grandchildren, William, and Emily. Oh, how she loved to
tell me about their accomplishments. She was one proud grandmother, and I am
sure she has touched them in ways they have yet to realize.
Just a few weeks ago, I was delighted to share how her influence on my family
had come full circle with the news that my granddaughter, Saylor, had just received
the "Ms. Manners" award in her pre-kindergarten class. I immediately sent Ms.
Marcia a text that she deserved this award, that it was a tribute to her,
remembering how she would always say, "Manners are a gift you give to your
children, it's like riding a bicycle ...... "
Oh, how I will miss my dear friend, her voice, her Southern charm, her cheery phone
calls with, "Hey Patti!! How ya doing and how are the children and those adorable
grandchildren."' I will forever hold dear our incredible fifty-three years of
friendship, for Ms. Marcia will forever be in my heart.
Love & Hugs,
Patti Shaw

We met Ms. Marcia and Mr.Gene when we moved in behind them. She made sure we were always stocked with fresh tomatoes and that Coco had all the treats! We would walk over and visit on the porch through Covid and beyond. Even after we moved we would stop by for our porch or garage visits!! We will miss her so very much! She was such a special and amazing lady!

Our dearest, precious Marcia. I will miss you so much…your phone calls have been a bright spot in my days since covid and no FL get togethers. You have been part of my life since 1964 when our families met on way to the 64 Worlds Fair in NYC. Our families shared so many wonderful times together in FL, GA, and New Orleans among many. You were especially such a dear friend of my mother, and I pray she has you in her arms now. Prayers for Gene, Ronda, Ron and Betty who will miss your cheerfulness and love. Rest In Peace, sweet Marcia, my favorite golfer buddy..❤️
